Ham Boning

It costs 1.7 cents to make a penny. The raw materials that go into making a penny are worth more than an actual penny.
Then why do we keep minting them?
Polls have shown that a majority of dumb Americans still like these worthless, germ-infested, fountain tokens.  Also, the zinc lobby (the main material making up the penny) spends a lot of paper currency making sure their prized coins stay in people's pockets.
The penny no longer serves any practicaly purpose.  Penny candy no longer exists and penny loafers have been out of style for a long time.
